Submission

Manuscript submission guidelines

  1. Correspondence concerning manuscripts, book reviews and editorial matters should be sent to the Managing Editor at the designated email id: anthsoc09@gmail.com.
  2. We welcome one manuscript from one particular author in one calendar year.
  3. The manuscript should be prepared and submitted in MS word format
  4. A single Word file comprising the text, tables and figures (the Main Document). The tables and figures should be placed at appropriate places in the  Main Document.
  5. The manuscript submission should be accompanied by a cover letter and a filled-in statement of ethics form as provided below. The letter would mention that the paper is original, not submitted anywhere for publication and not published before. It should contain a brief explanation of what was previously known, the conceptual advance provided by the findings, and its significance to a broad readership. If a manuscript has multiple authors, then the corresponding author should provide the contact details of the co-authors.
  6. The abstract should be unstructured and consists of a single paragraph. The word limit for the abstract is a maximum of 300 words. The abstract should contain a brief background of the question, a description of the results without extensive experimental detail, and a brief summarization of the significance of the findings. References should not be cited in the abstract. 
  7. The abstract should contain 6-10 keywords and a running head.
  8. The manuscript’s main text (for full-length articles) should not exceed 8000 words, excluding the list of references. For brief communication, the word limit is 2000 words. The manuscript should be typed using ‘Times New Roman (TNR)’ font, size 12, with double space. The headings, subheadings and sub-sub headings should be marked using appropriate styles. Heading should be in 12pt bold in TNR in all capital and left inclined. The subheading should be 12pt italics in TNR and left inclined. Each Heading should have double spacing with the preceding paragraph and single spacing with the succeeding one. In the case of subheading, there will be single spacing with the preceding paragraph and single spacing with the succeeding one. The page numbering should be continuous and marked at the centre of the bottom side of the page. 
  9. A manuscript can contain a maximum number of six tables.  The authors may use figures and maps if they deem justified for the manuscript. 
  10. All vernacular words should be italicized with the appropriate meaning explained in the text or adjacent parenthesis.
  11. Please do not use footnotes. The contributors may use endnotes.  Endnotes should be marked by superscript in the main text and listed before references at the end of the paper.

Reference style

  1.  In-text reference should be mentioned either as ‘Bose (1953)’ or ‘(Bose, 1953)’. In the case of quoted text, the page number is to be given as ‘Bose (1953:65)’. For citing references of more than two authors, use et al. after the first author’s surname (Subhramanium et al., 2020).

Ethical Approval

The Journal of the Indian Anthropological Society  publishes the results of research involving human subjects only if fully compliant with the ethical principles set out in the World Medical Association Declaration of Helsinki of 1975, as revised in 2008 (http://www.wma.net/en/30publications/10policies/b3/17c.pdf) and with the additional requirements, if any, of the country in which the research was carried out. Submitted manuscripts must contain a clear statement to this effect. They should specify that the free and informed consent of the subjects or their legal guardians was obtained and that the relevant institutional or national ethics review board approved the investigation.

For studies based on secondary data, the following example wording may be used:

The authors assert that all procedures contributing to this work comply with the ethical standards of the relevant national and institutional committees on human experimentation and with the Helsinki Declaration of 1975, as revised in 2008.

Conflict of Interest

The Journal requires that all authors disclose any potential sources of conflict of interest. Any interest or relationship, financial or otherwise that might be perceived as influencing an author’s objectivity is considered a potential source of conflict of interest.

Funding

Authors should list all funding sources in the Acknowledgments section. Authors are responsible for the accuracy of their funder designation.

  1. This material is the author’s/authors’ original work, which has not been previously published in any form elsewhere.
  2. The paper is not currently being submitted for consideration for publication elsewhere.
  3. The paper reflects the author’s/authors’ research and analysis in a truthful and complete manner.
  4. The paper properly includes the meaningful contributions of co-authors and co-researchers. Please declare (a) contributions of each of the co-authors by stating the areas (theoretical, methodological, empirical and so on) where they have given inputs, and (b) contributions of each of the co-authors in the sub-sections of the article. 
  5. The results are appropriately placed in the context of existing literature.
  6. All sources used are correctly disclosed (correct citation). Literal copying of text must be indicated by using quotation marks and giving proper references with page numbers. 
  7. All authors have been personally and actively involved in substantial work leading to the paper and will take public responsibility for its content.
  8. Acknowledge people who have helped otherwise during the research but are not the co-authors.

The violation of the Ethical Statement rules may result in severe consequences, including retraction of the article, action according to copyright acts.
